Crossfit isn’t just about building better humans through functional movement. It’s largely about building a sense of community through relationships. A Crossfit gym is a holistic venue where athletes can build themselves up when the stresses of daily living have chipped away at their spirit. It’s also a place where every single success and milestone is celebrated. The goal of every Crossfit gym is to maintain the empowering and positive aspects of the social culture.
Leadership within a Crossfit gym is what creates the culture. Leadership styles can be just as variable as the personalities within the gym and a great leader has the finesse and ability to know which leadership style to use, and when to use it. Great leaders are fluid and multi-faceted. They can raise the energy and frequency of the entire gym. Great leadership stems from spirituality.
“Enlightened leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight and focused attention.” -Deepak Chopra
There is an element in Crossfit that strongly exists and it’s the spiritual experience. It’s not quantitative or measurable but an intangible shift takes place improving all aspects of our lives. It’s why we are so eager to share it like missionaries with everyone we meet. This experience is to be valued and preserved by not only coaches, but athletes as well. For leaders aren’t simply found in positions of materialistic ownership, but in the hearts of everyone who steps foot in the gym.
Should you encounter a negative experience like drama, petty gossip, or even simply expressing self defeating thoughts about yourself and your progress I challenge you to increase your awareness. If you are feeling negative or encounter another member/coach who is negative and operating at a lower vibration please pause before you react and ask yourself if your response to the situation is honest, kind, and perhaps most importantly, is it necessary? If you answered yes to all three then proceed. If not then adjust accordingly.
Instead of looking for someone or something outside of yourself to come along and miraculously resolve a situation, start looking within. You have two choices in life. You can continue to spend your time chasing rainbows and coming up empty handed, or you can finally decide to make the internal shift and realize the rainbow…. is you.
“The power of intuitive understanding will protect you from harm until the end of your days.” -Lao Tzu
